If you have heard of the Paint and Sip craze that is sweeping the country, but haven’t yet attended, you might have a lot of questions. One of the questions we hear most often is, Can I bring my kids? To answer this, let’s break down what to expect.

What Is a Paint and Sip?

A Paint and Sip is nothing like your high school art class. It’s both a social gathering and a class, where the wine and conversation flow freely as a professional artist guides you step by step through recreating a masterpiece. The painting is a focus activity and conversation starter, but the stakes are low and the atmosphere is intentionally low stress. Although alcohol is part of the fun, it is not a drunken free for all.

Is Artistic Experience Necessary?

Artistic experience is absolutely not required! We have an extensive library of paintings for all skill levels, and our professional artists are excellent at walking each person through the process. Whether you have been painting for years or have never picked up a brush, a Paint and Sip is the perfect way to unlock your inner creativity.

What Should I Bring?

We provide everything you need for the class, from paints and a canvas to an apron. We do ask that you wear old clothes that you don’t mind dripping paint on. The Paint Place is BYOB (wine and beer only), although we can provide corkscrews and cups. Note that only those aged 21 and over are permitted to consume alcohol.

How Do I Know if My Kids Are Ready?

There is no minimum age to attend a Paint and Sip, but parents should note that these events are geared primarily towards adults. By the age of 8 to 10, most kids are ready to participate, though some take a bit longer to mature. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself whether your child is able to stay reasonably on task for an hour, and whether he or she enjoys socializing with adults. Many parents find that a Paint and Sip helps to boost their kids’ confidence and social skills, along with unlocking an inner love of art.

Other Options for Kids

If your kids aren’t quite ready for a Paint and Sip, we also offer Family Painting Days on weekend mornings. These are geared towards kids ages 4 to 8, but this is a guideline rather than a rule. Feel free to bring a younger child who is mature for her age, or a slightly older child who still struggles with self-direction. These classes are billed by the canvas rather than the individual, so you and your child can work together if desired.

We also offer summer art camps in August. The first week is designed for kids ages 6 to 10, while the second week is for ages 10 and above. This is a great opportunity for kids to delve into various media, and some light art history, as well as painting.

Private Parties

Another option is a private party. Whether you want to host an all-kids birthday party or a multigenerational family reunion, we are here to help (minimum guest counts apply). We can help you choose a theme, figure out decorating ideas, and even recommend caterers. Or, if you prefer, we can even bring an artist to your choice of outside venue. You are free to select any painting from our catalog, or even choose one painting for the kids and another for the adults. Just let us know what you have in mind, and we can help you bring your vision to life.
